Step-by-step guides to building apps with Nutshell

Part 1: Viewing Users

Start by logging into your Nutshell instance. Your login credentials and a link to your instance will have been emailed to you when your account was created. To follow this tutorial, you’ll need to be logged in as an Admin user, since only Admins can manage other user accounts in Nutshell.

The first thing you’ll see when you’re logged-in is your Dashboard. If this is the first time anyone has logged in to your instance, it might look a little bare, but don’t worry – the Dashboard is covered in detail elsewhere – for now, all we’re going to do is create some users!

In the top right hand corner, you’ll find the main menu. Hover your mouse over the Account tab and select Manage Users from the dropdown.

This will take you to the User Management screen, which displays a list of all users currently belonging to your Nutshell account. If the account has never been used yet, there may only be one account listed here.

Basic information about user can be opened on the right-hand side of the page simply by clicking on a user in the list. This is really just at-a-glance information, such as when the user was created, last updated and how many user-groups they belong to.

You’ll also notice a bunch of new buttons that appear in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen, allowing you to Delete, Block or Edit the selected user.

Whilst Deleting and Editing a User are fairly self-explanatory, Blocking a User may not be: There may be occasions when you want to prevent a user from accessing any apps, without having to delete their data.

On these occasions, Blocking a User achieves this – the User will no longer be able to login to their Nutshell account, but their account will not be deleted.
