Detailed explanations of every feature and function in NutshellLocation
The Location component allows you to capture location data from your end-user, either by typing in Latitude/Longitude values by hand, or by dropping a pin on a map based on their physical location.

End-users can either capture their current location or type co-ordinates by hand
Required Fields
If a Location field in your form is mandatory, Nutshell can automatically validate that an end-user has not left it blank. Just set the field to be a required field, and Nutshell will do the rest.
Default Content
If your form is just capturing data, your Location field will probably be blank by default. Sometimes it’s helpful to pre-populate a field though – either by entering a value by hand in the properties panel, or by pulling a value in dynamically from a data-source. What do we mean by dynamically? Dynamic data is content that changeable based on something your end-user does, or loaded at run-time from a database table.

Like other components, the default location can be pulled in dynamically from a data-source
It’s also possible to have the Location component pre-populated automatically with the end-user’s current physical location. Although it’s worth bearing in mind that the end-user can choose to disable location services on their device, and there’s nothing we can do to stop them.
Resizing a Location Component
To resize a Location component, click and drag on a corner of its bounding box. A Location field can only be resized horizontally. The height of a Location field depends on text-size, padding and margins applied.
Location Properties
When a Location component is selected on the Canvas, the following settings are available in the Properties panel:
Basic Settings | |
---|---|
Reference | A unique identifier for the field. This is critical, as it allows you to reference the field directly when mapping to and from a Data component, or inserting data into emails and documents. |
Default Content | Gives you the option of specifying a particular location (either by typing the latitude/longitude values by hand, or dropping a pin on a map), detecting the end-user’s physical location (if they have it enabled on their device) or leaving the field blank by default. |
Styling | |
---|---|
Various | A host of options to style your Location component – including both the text fields and the button. These options should be quite familiar if you’ve ever used a basic document editor like Microsoft Word. |
